Playing IIT Online lectures with RealPlayer on Windows Vista

Entered on 08/18/2009 at 14:37:29 CDT (GMT-0500)

Question:

How can I watch IIT online videos on a Windows Vista system with RealPlayer?

Answer:

Playing IIT Online lectures with Mozilla Firefox (recommended)

On Windows Vista, RealPlayer currently works better with Mozilla Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com) than it does with Internet Explorer. To play IIT Online lectures in Firefox:

  • Click the Camera icon. The first time you play a lecture in Firefox, you will see a Firefox prompt. Select Open with RealPlayer (default).
  • Check Do this automatically for files like this from now on to avoid receiving the above prompt again.
  • Click OK.

Note to Windows Vista 64-bit users

As of August 2009, RealNetworks has not released a version of RealPlayer that supports 64-bit versions of Windows XP or Vista. For this reason, IIT Online recommends using the 32-bit version of Vista, or downgrading to Windows XP 32-bit, to play online lectures.
